So.. we finally got back to the arboretum sunday.. we (chris, Luna, and myself) were on the hunt for deer sheds. It looked to be prime shed hunting area.. lots of low trees/shrubs, and trails everywhere..
I found deer hair…
A really nice deer rub (though this would be old, as rut has kinda been done since late december or so.. but it indicates former buck territory… But long story short, we didn’t find anything fantastic. Chris found a really old small 2 point shed that Luna is now enjoying.. it had to be at least a couple years old, was beginning to take on a green color.. Luna seems to really like it though. Though we didn’t find any other sheds, we did find deer skulls.. quite a few of them.
Luna looks a little concerned with our discoveries.. Our theory behind finding so many in a rather small area is the busy road nearby. We think many were hit and then died in the woods. Probably found upwards of 8 skulls. But moving on for those who are on the squeamish side..
We then left the woods in search of whatever we could find.. birds apparently were on the list. Yay for borrowed Zoom lenses.. Wish I knew how to convert BW better to get a more real feel..
Loved this little treasure.. saw quite a few this size.. at first I had hoped it was a hummingbird nest but soon realized it was too large.. this photo doesn’t allow for a sense of size, but you could probably fit a gold ball in the hollow of the nest. So still pretty small.
It was a very overcast day, and wildflowers were not up at this location, so the pictures are a little boring. But it was a good 2+ hours of exploring fun, and the rain held off till we left. Anywho, just a little photo adventure for you. I have a ton of photos to sort, but it’s a busy week, so who knows when I will get to them. Stay tuned though for more Dog photos, concert photos, and hopefully my friend’s new baby girl Ava, oh and probably some easter fun.
Happy Easter all (if I am not able to post again before then)
