Foodie Friday: Stew twice over

Well it was a decently busy week in the kitchen this time.  Or at least it felt like it.

Some things I made

Beef Stew (the closest thing to soup the Mister will eat)

And my first Whole Wheat “Country” Bread to go with it

It was pretty dense, it was not supposed to be as far as I know.  Bread baking can be oober complicated, but I actually had the ideal temp after kneading (78 degrees? or was it 74) but that didn’t seem to help anything.  Wish I had someone to teach the right and wrong way to do things bread wise.  I also should have scored deeper, would have looked nicer.  Anyhow it had a nice soft crumb and kept well.  So not a total loss.  And the Beef Stew leftovers were not lost either. I feel very proud of this next creation.

(pardon the blur, Luna kept whining while I had this on her side, thus she was moving, and thus it’s blurry)

I modified the Berry Snap dog treat recipe I made for the pups a while ago, instead of the PB, I put blended carrots/taters/stew meat in and swapped the blueberries for Craisins (thought cranberry would go a bit better with the beef, not like the dogs care but I wanted to be official, I also washed off some of the chunks so that there would not be too much juice with them).  They turned out well… as seen here

placed on Luna’s paw, with a look of  “must I reeeally wait to eat this treat”.  Disregard the oober long nails, we are overdue for a dremel trim (my LEAST favorite chore, yes it’s a chore ask Luna)  Anyway both pups liked them, but I think they are biased and we should have more friends try them.  Any takers? Seriously…

And last but not least

Chai Spice Cookies.. Very easy and quite lovely. And I will be eating them all as the Mister is not a fan of spicy baked goods… guess I better go for a walk tomorrow.

What are your kitchen plans this weekend?

  1. OMG…I just ate dinner, but now am in desperate need of COOKIES! Would love it if you’d share your recipe some time. 🙂

I’ve never attempted baking bread, but I think it’d be awesome to know how. Yours looked amazing! I’m slightly obsessed with food photos and love your Foodie Friday posts!

    • P.S. The photo of Luna looks fantastic. I have the hardest time getting sharp photos of Gus. He’s always moving and if one is ever in focus, it’s a total fluke. I need to bust out my manual!

      • Anna says:

Thanks, have you ever worked with gus on a “wait” or “pause” command? I use that for photos like this with food in the picture. When we are out and about it doesn’t work as well unless she is doing a sit for me. Then I just have to have camera ready as she never stops moving either. What camera do you have?

Thanks so much for the comment, Foodie Friday seems to be a favorite around here, now if I only could take better photos of food. Still working on that. I will share the Chai recipe when I get back from church, so stay tuned. It’s a very simple recipe

That looks like a wonderful meal, I thought your bread looked good. I’ve tried my hand at bread a few times and sometimes it comes out and others, well…
I would love the recipe for your dog treats, I have a favorite doggy ginger cookie I make for my girls that they love and actually my nephew even eats them, he said their good because their not real sweet.
P.S. Chai Spice Cookie recipe too please, gotta have a little treat for myself…LOL

I don’t know why, but suddenly I feel very hungry. 🙂 Looks like a yummy beef stew. I bet it would work with venison too.

I am not sure I would have success putting a cookie on either of the 2 brown dwags’ paws and taking a picture. Luna is a good girl!

    • Anna says:

Haha, well that might be a good reason, this is the best stew photo I’ve taken, even got the steam. But I can’t take all the credit, my husband arranged the contents of the bowl. You ever bake any treats for your pups?
