Alright, so it’s been a sad week in the kitchen this week. I have been stressed and busy with other matters outside of home so I have not done much if any cooking. That’s not to say my husband has not eaten well. He tried out the crab cakes from Costco, and the pulled pork from there too. Both were reported to be good which is awesome because I am always in need of quick dinners. Wooohooo. Anywho I am going to try and make some cookies tonight for when he comes home. He is on call this week, which always makes for a long week. This was confirmed when I came in from the kennel and found the bed disturbed, alarm clock set and my husband gone again.
Moving on as I feel bad about stalling on the work I need to get done.. Since I missed yesterdays throwback… and don’t have any pictures of foods from this week I thought I would look through my archives. It was a treat and inspiring to look back on all the goodies I made, I should do that more often.
Here are 3 of the prettiest cakes/pie I’ve made to date (IMO)
I do believe this is the first Apple Pie I made from complete scratch… as in I made the crust too. And put some effort into appearance (star cut out of middle, sugar added to top to brown held on by some half&half), outside of the darn sides which never look good. I also learned a good pie lesson with this one. DON’T use a big cookie cutter (as in nothing more than an inch across) to cut a fancy hole in the center. It not only dried out the apples in the center (which you can see is quite a few) but also spread its dry evilness to beyond that a bit. It was still edible, but after all that work I was sad it was not perfect. (I know I’m crazy) Anyway, lesson learned.
Prettiest cake shot I’ve ever taken. Thank you mother’s wonderful kitchen light. Sadly I was not overly thrilled with this cake. It was a Hazelnut Bunt cake with a chocolate glaze. I made it for my dad’s birthday as he loves hazelnuts. He enjoyed it, i felt it was a little blah, even with the chocolate. But I guess all that matters is he liked it. And no he was not turning 7, I do believe these seven candles stood for 6-1, that’s how we roll around here when numbers get too high.
Alright, so this is not the prettiest cake, but doesn’t it look amazing still? I was really excited to make this and EAT it. I made this for the Mister’s bday, he is a HUGE resee fan, like above all other candies.. So when I found the recipe I had to save it and make it. People seemed to really like it, I feel it could use more work. It was a lovely rich, moist chocolate cake overall, but the PB content could have been higher, even with chunks of resees in it. Glaze could have had more PB too, it mostly just tasted like chocolate. Maybe I will try it again this year, I highly doubt the Mister will mind 😉
Alright, enough procrastinating, back to work I go. I have a class to go to tomorrow AM, and a anniversary shoot in the PM. So if I miss tomorrow’s entry I apologize, things will slow down (hopefully) after this weekend. Hopefully these pics can hold you over until then. (either that or they are going to drive you crazy)
Have a great weekend!
Bake something for me… well not FOR me but since I won’t have the time
um. will you bake for me for my birthday?
haha, honestly I wouldn’t mind at all.. where do you live? Chocolate fan eh? Thanks for stopping by
Mmmmm…those all look so delicious! I just finished up with lunch and could really go for a slice of that apple pie!
The new blog template looks great!
I would probably take a piece of a good apple pie over a piece of chocolate cake any day. Weird I know. Looking forward to apple season, maybe I will have my stuff together enough to make and freeze some pies. Thanks for the comment on the template… still wishing I could control what background color the posts are but I guess I will have to live with it. I’m probably too much of a perfectionist anyway.
Yum-yum. All three look yummy. No baking for us….more training. 🙂
