Foodie Friday: Fail

So I have been slacking when it comes to baking/cooking.  Can’t put a finger on why, maybe I’m just tired and don’t want to end up eating it all myself.

It’s not that I didn’t cook/bake anything this week just nothing photo worthy..  When we came back from our fishing/anniversary trip I saved some of the meat scraps from the fish .  I had the bright idea to dry some strips like jerky in the dehydrator for the 4 leggers…  BAD idea, those snacks are not even worth a photo.  The white meat pieces were not so bad, I now understand more about why it’s so important to clean the dark/red meat off the fillet.  Even after nearly 2 days in the dryer the dark pieces were not dry yet, too much oil.  And boy do they stink, to the point where I either wear gloves or just dump them out of the container.  It took nearly a week but our apartment finally doesn’t smell distinctly like fish.  I am NOT a seafood fan so those smells are quite annoying.  But moving on

I also made pancakes and eggs, pop overs, grilled cheese with some artisan garlic bread… And tomorrow maybe I will have energy to make some Cinnamon monkey bread for breakfast and maybe some blueberry scones or something.  Time will tell.

To tide you over to hopefully a more productive food week next week..

Do you know of these berries?  They’re wine berries. And I can’t wait till they appear again, hopefully all this rain will make it a good year.

Have a great weekend all, cook something for me.

  1. I mistakenly thought they were raspberries at first, too. They look wonderful!

Would love to see you soon, and though we’ve never had striper, I can’t imagine that we wouldn’t like it–especially if it is mild and has a nice flake:)

Let me know when you’ll be around my neck o’ the woods. Can’t wait for school season to be done…it’s time to put my feet up!

I love that you post about your “FAILS”. I post about mine too.
    Thanks for the great post!

  4. Wine berries? I thought they were raspberries.
Either way, they look really good!

I do like fish, but that fish smell would annoy me, too. Yuck!

Everybody needs a break. I am sure you will be back at it when you feel inspired. 🙂

The berries look beautiful. I guess they are different than raspberries?

yeah, maybe I should check out food gawker… that sometimes helps. You think my foodie fridays are bad, you should google that.

They are indeed different than raspberries. For one they are smaller, usually not much larger than a big over ripe pea. Their seeds are much smaller than R, which is probably half the reason I like them. And their flavor is indicative of the name, kinda winey, not overly sweet slightly tangy. They grow all over the place wild, just a matter of knowing what you’re looking for.

Maybe chopping off those fingertips has something to do with the food fail? I hope they’re seeing better days:)

Nonetheless, I love the wineberries photo. As far as cooking something for you, how does hash browns sound? Made them for supper tonight, with spicy hot Italian sausages. I dunno, the guys seemed to love it:) And tomorrow Nino is spearheading a John Wolford Clean Up Day for the neighborhood, so we’re calling all the neighbors to come help and join us for a BBQ afterwards. Dessert? Well, a brownie pizza, of course. confectioner’s for the “sauce” and sliced strawberries for the “pepperoni.” Gotta keep it fun!

    Miss you!

that could be liz… they are doing quite well. I keep meaning to include an update but always forget. All skin now no more scabs. But they are still sensitive, and I keep them covered with a bandaid most of the time to cushion a bit. Those hash browns sound like chris would like them. I’m funny about potatoes, things need to be pretty crispy for me to eat them. Have a great time at your BBQ, should have a lovely day for it. And the dessert sounds great, I have been wanting to make a fruit pizza or dessert pizza sometime. I actually snuck apple butter as my base on my last white one… yum yum.

Miss you too, I think we are overdue for some tea. Do you all like striper (the fish?) it’s a white meat, said to not be fishy and has a good flake..
