So, I must forewarn you, if you have not eaten you probably should not read this… if you have a sweet tooth you may not want to read this… and if you don’t like the color orange you better just move on.
My kitchen was busy this weekend… I started off with a hankering for Monkey bread and decided on a cinnamon variety.
Ready to go into the oven… is there any way these are NOT going to be good?
Playing around with DOF though it was hard to take pictures, as I just wanted to dive in
The verdict…. they could be better. Yep I said it. They were slightly bland and could use more flavor (fat.. ie butter ) so I will work on it. In any case I love these photos
Next up was a Peach Galette
Looks ugly but tasted good. I think I will just stick with my go-to crust if I make this again. I think it would be neat to do a savory one sometime too.
While that was cooking I tried out another new recipe.
…candied oranges. This was during the simple syrup stage, have to be careful to keep enough water in the pot or it will turn into straight syrup then hard candy.
This photo does not do them justice but it was dark out and they were too tasty…. and were gone fast (courtesy of yours truly, least they’re healthy right?) I much prefer the sugar rolled ones such as above… to the plain. And I think tossing the fresh strips in sugar upon leaving the pan then laying them out to dry is the best method. Leaving them in the bowl with the sugar as others suggested ended up in hard sugar with orange slices stuck in it.
And last up more peaches…
in the form of Scuffins… yep, new word I just made up. They were supposed to be scones, but dough was too sticky to just drop on pan, so I threw them in muffin tins. Another recipe that ended up kind of bland which was surprising… I still ended up eating 9 of the 12, I know horrible right? I doubt I will bother to fix this recipe will just add peaches to my basic scone recipe and make it work. Don’t they just look oober happy in those wrappers though?
And that about wraps up the week. I made new dog biscuits for the 4-leggers too but I want to take new pics of those before I share so stay tuned.
Now I need to get some MUCH needed sleep before our big day tomorrow. We will be at Bark in the Park in Frederick, come see us if you are looking for something to do with your pups. This is a new event for us but it was said to be quite a hit last year. More info here : http://www.frederickcountymd.gov/index.aspx?nid=3152
Have a fantastic weekend, hope you didn’t get too sick of orange
oh, god. i want to eat my screen right now.
lol! I think that’s one of the best responses I have ever gotten. Thank you
OMG. I just ate dinner an hour ago and already went to the pantry for a cookie. I do not bake – so seeing all your yummy goodies is making me drool!
well if you ever stop by VA maybe I’ll make you something… Glad you enjoyed this entry.. I set the bar pretty high for next time.
I need to move back to MD and become your official taste tester! All of these look really, really good!
Everything looks so yummy. Come to think of it, I am a bit hungry. Could use one of those Scuffins with my coffee. 🙂
Hope you have good weather for Bark in the Park!
thanks, those scruffins prolly wouldn’t make it out of my kitchen cuz I felt bad about them.
So I was pretty much going “…Woooooow…woooooow…woooow…” the whole time. (And of course, I realized I didn’t have any dessert tonight, which makes my stomach rumble all the more. Especially for those candied oranges; I didn’t even know there was such a thing!) Then Eric, the milkshake diet victim, kept trying to peek over my shoulder to see what I was gooing over. If he saw this page, he’d probably break the diet rules. :p
lol sorry.. you are always welcome to check what I have cooking and come by for some if you are around. I would be WAY okay with that as I don’t want to eat it all but end up doing so usually.
All your baked goods looks so delicious—I’m drooling over the Monkey Bread, especially. And I doubt that they tasted bland. I mean, how could they? Look at all that ooey-gooey goodness glistening in the light!
It’s a good thing I’ve already had my breakfast and that my tummy feels full, otherwise my taste buds would be sulking and demanding a bite of your candied oranges.
