Happy birthday to me…

Guess what I got for my birthday…

bet you will never guess, unless you follow me on Instagram

Well before you die of suspense I shall tell you

GECKOS!  not just any geckos either, Crested Geckos

It started with Bing… a gift from a new friend, who is married to this guy… who you may have seen around the blog world. And what a gift she is… this is what they call her when she is “fired-down” or the normal colored I guess.

This is Bing “fired-up”… beautiful huh?  I don’t know how I manage to get such beautiful pets, eventually I am going to get a real dopey looking one, God is funny like that.

Here is a photo to show her size, she may pack a ton of color but she is still catching up in size.  Thanks so much to my Mr. for assisting with these photos.  I am not sure what the color morph is as all that stuff is faaaar too complicated for me.  If I figure it out, I will let you know. My new friend started me with some food and a critter carrier for miss Bing but I knew she would need more.  So I kept an eye on craigslist while I priced out terrariums.

I found a fantastic deal on craigslist that included all this stuff (cricket food, water, calcium spray and powder… along with cleaners, food, dishes, vitamin sprays, lil dripper, mister bottle and substrate), and a nice tall exo-terra terrarium.

That looked like this after I set it all up for the girls. I also included the cork log that you see on top later after I added the second gecko

Yes, second gecko. She came with the deal.

Meet Nanners, short/nickname for Banana.

Apparently the air outside tasted good

She is a chunker, here is a picture to give you a feel for her size.  She is also like 2 or 3 years older than Bing, hopefully she will grow up this well.  I had concerns about housing them together but my friend assured me they would be fine.

Despite their size differences they seem to be doing just fine together.  Now if I could just stop worrying about whether she is eating or not we would all be happy campers.  My concern has actually driven me to figuring out how to shoot a time lapse with my camera, hopefully now that I have 400 some images I can figure out how to turn it into a video for you.

I am sure as they get more comfortable you will see more photos of them so stay tuned.

So neat! I’m jealous! Hahaha! I have never heard of these before. Which, I am surprised because I’ve had two different kinds of lizards in my life. I am so glad you posted pictures! You have made the wheels in my head begin to turn and I must find out more about these fascinating creatures! 🙂

  2. So cool to see him on here also… 🙂

Happy Birthday! Not sure that is the gift I would have picked…lol. My nephew has a gecko. Don’t they live forever? I think he feeds live crickets. yuck

haha, it was kinda an impulse thing, but it’s way less work than Luna lol. And plus they are cool to photograph. You may want to talk to your nephew and have him look up Repashy its’ a great gecko diet. If they aren’t getting all they need they can develop growing issues. These can live up to around 20 years I think, but really they are easy to care for and only get max around 8 inches. So no bigger and bigger cages. Mine love crickets too, I am hoping to pick up some roaches at the reptile expo tomorrow… we shall see.

  5. Happy Birthday Anna!

    They are beauties!
